Development & Communications Manager
Job Description

Are you enthusiastically in love with nature and the outdoors? Are you an experienced fundraiser or have non-profit experience? Have you wanted to put your creative talents to work helping connect people with nature? This might be just the job for you.

The Land Trust of the Treasure Valley is seeking a Development & Communications Manager to help conserve nature close to home. You will be connecting with members, donors and sponsors, working with our stewardship program on awesome adult and youth volunteer projects, and organizing several events, including the Les Bois Film Festival.

Responsibilities:

Donor and Supporter Management and Communications

  • Develops and delivers the Land Trust message to existing and potential supporters; maintains and grows a relationship with our donors and supporters
  • Work with office manager on Donor database management 
  • Writes thank you, renewal and appeal letters and works with Office Manager on production and mailing
  • Writes stories and coordinates graphics, layout, printing, and mailing of bi-annual newsletter
  • Drafts and Creates bi-weekly eBlasts
  • Manages website structure and content; keeping website up to date
  • Serves as photographer/videographer and works with other volunteer or contract creatives to visually portray the Land Trust’s work
  • Manages social media communications, including assisting staff and board in participation.  
  • Coordinates earned media, develops press contacts and drafts press materials

Fundraising/ Event Planning

  • Grant Management – Works with Executive Director on grant proposals, assists the Office Manager in tracking grant finances and assists in grant reporting
  • Event Planning - Organize supporter Holiday Party, Les Bois Film Festival, Idaho Gives and Fall Dinner; as well as other fundraisers and outreach events as needed
  • Fundraising - Develops and maintains relationships with corporate sponsors, private foundations and grantors. Works with Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop fundraising and communications strategy (recruiting new and retaining existing members and developing creative fundraising ideas and opportunities)

Community Outreach

  • Assists Stewardship Coordinator in recruitment and coordination of volunteers using online registration system. Participates in volunteer events when needed for registration or support Follows up and thanks volunteers for their participation  
  • Works with partner organizations and agencies as needed to assist with program implementation
  • May be asked to assist Stewardship Coordinator in delivering programs, such as BSU Service Learning, Bird by Bird and Kids N Nature as needed
  • Responds to requests for information about the Land Trust
  • Represents the Land Trust at tabling and other relevant community events and meetings as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience with Donor Management System, such as Neon
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Belief in open space conservation and sense of humor a must
  • Experience with community organizing/ event planning, using tools such as Eventbrite 
  • Proficiency with Google Suite helpful
  • Experience with grant management and fundraising desirable
  • Experience with website, email tools and social media management; such as Squarespace, Mailchimp, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc. helpful
  • Basic skills with graphic design/layout; photography and videography skills beneficial
  • Basic knowledge of Quickbooks Online helpful

Wages and Benefits

The job will be 30-40 hrs hours per week with a pay rate of $19-23 / hour, commensurate with experience. Benefits include flexible schedule, paid holidays, and paid vacation/ sick leave. Simple IRA with a 3% company match. Position reports to the Executive Director.
