Trail Etiquette 101 for Dogs & Owners

The Land Trust of the Treasure Valley, in partnership with Adventure K-9, is proud to present the Trail Etiquette Class : a six-week, hands-on course designed to make you and your pup the gold standard of trail users.

Included in your registration is a copy of "The Hiker's Guide: Treasure Valley Dog Hikes & Walks" by Matt Clark & Diana Burrell, a compilation of 80 trails, paths, and parks friendly for people and dogs, and how to use them properly.

Whether you're dealing with "trail lunging," poor recall, or just want to ensure you're respecting our beautiful local ecosystem, this class provides the practical skills you need to navigate the foothills with confidence.

This isn't just a basic obedience class. We focus on real-world scenarios that hikers face every day:

Yielding Protocol: Knowing who has the right of way (hikers, bikers, and horses).

Leave No Trace: Proper waste management and staying on the designated path.

Neutrality: Teaching your dog to remain calm when passing other dogs or wildlife.

Recall & Focus: Maintaining engagement with your dog amidst the distractions of nature.

Class Schedule & Location

We’ve structured this course to move from the "classroom" to the "great outdoors" so you can generalize your dog's new skills. The first 4 weeks will be at Adventure K-9 Training Center on Wednesday evenings with the last 2 classes on the Harrison Hollow Trail.
